Meet Wes Blair

Wes Blair is an executive public safety leader, advisor, educator, and speaker with more than three decades of experience spanning municipal policing, aviation public safety, organizational strategy, governance, and leadership development.

Known for a relational leadership style grounded in trust, communication, and organizational stability, Wes has spent his career leading complex public safety organizations while helping build stronger connections between institutions and the communities they serve.

Wes currently serves as Chief of Police for Memphis International Airport, one of North America’s busiest cargo airports, where he leads a public safety organization focused on operational coordination, strategic planning, stakeholder collaboration, and critical infrastructure protection within a dynamic aviation environment.

Prior to Memphis, Wes served for 11 years as Chief of Police for the City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri — the longest-serving police chief in the department’s history. During his tenure, he led significant organizational modernization efforts, including major technology and communications upgrades, development of a new police facility, expanded community engagement initiatives, and leadership-focused organizational improvements centered on transparency, collaboration, and procedural justice.

Throughout his career, Wes has been recognized for a leadership approach that prioritizes relationships, organizational trust, and long-term institutional stability. His experience leading in high-pressure environments has shaped his perspective on executive leadership, organizational culture, resilience, and leadership sustainability.

In addition to his executive leadership roles, Wes served for nearly a decade as an adjunct instructor at Southeast Missouri State University, helping develop future public safety professionals through instruction, mentorship, and leadership education.

Wes has also maintained extensive involvement in public sector and nonprofit governance throughout his career. His board and leadership service has included organizations focused on domestic violence advocacy, child protection, community leadership development, public safety collaboration, victim services, and civic engagement. He previously served as President of the Missouri Federation of Chiefs of Police and has held numerous leadership and advisory roles across both public safety and nonprofit sectors.

A graduate of the FBI National Academy, Wes holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Criminal Justice Leadership, a Master of Public Administration, and a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership.
